Trailer

Acclaimed game designer Chris Roberts (who helped define the space simulation genre with his Wing Commander and Privateer franchises) takes gamers to another universe with Star Citizen. The game brings the visceral action of piloting interstellar craft through combat and exploration to a new generation of gamers at a level of fidelity never before seen. It offers a complete universe where any number of adventures can take place, allowing players to decide their own game experience. Pick up jobs as a smuggler, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, or enlisted pilot. A huge sandbox with a complex and deep lore allows players to explore or play in whatever capacity they wish. Immerse yourself high quality, cutting-edge visuals and technology, a virtual world that is massive and detailed, a sophisticated storyline that is wide in scope, and visceral space combat that will make your heart pound.

This game is the record-breaker on player funding, having already surpassed 23million dollars

More to come!

Thats 100% buy, it reminds me of Galactica, but it has to compete with X3:rebirth.
I think Star citizen will be a winner if they keep flight-model realistic enough, regarding inertia and 0G-environment.

I bought it when they were around 3m $ with their funding. Sine X-R is the biggest disappointment in the last few years i really hope it will be at least close to what they promise.

I’ve been looking at that for a while it looks really good, if I get it I’m getting the Hornet. What about everyone else? We could make a Star Citizen – Monkey Gamers fleet.

There’s a couple out or due out this year on the Space sim front. Elite: Dangerous is looking pretty good and we have already had X: rebirth.

This though looks the most aesthetically pleasing and can’t help feel excited when Chris talks about it. Bring it on!

Ok so I’ve decided when the game comes out I’m going to be an escort or a bandit depending on how things go and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in joining me. If you are people can you post what you would want to do, the ship you have Pledged for and the role you would want to take in the group. Thanks

Yep pretty darn good. The flight mechanics are slightly better than ED but I need to do a few changes to the key bindings to make it work better.

The beta consists of free roaming around a broken moon and star, battle sim against some fighters (both space) and race against time which is planetary.

Graphics are truly stunning in both space and planetary. Space reminds me of Eve a bit but it all feels within touching distance and alive unlike most sims and just a wallpaper background. The hanger is not just a room with a ship in. You can roam about, take a look at your different ships and even take a lift upstair and admire the view.

In the hanger you walk up to whatever ship you want take for a spin, press the door to open and walk in to your craft. Depending on what ship you’ve got depends on your next options. Basic ships will be go to bed or sit in the cockpit. On larger ships you get work benches and get to go into the cargo holds, even a kitchen or toilet to use.

I’ll put a video up this weekend but before you run out and get it i wouldnt just yet. Wait until the sandbox beta comes out as this current one wont keep you interest for long.

If I had Star Citizen I think I’d just be happy hauling cargo across the ‘verse for a living :’)
Mostly because I’d like to try something different to what the majority of player will do which will be military and pirate based stuff where they can shoot anything that moves.
Firefly inspires me to try something else heh.
Either that or I’d like to run search & rescue/recovery operations for damaged ships and crew.

That sounds amazing Hyfrith. And Firefly was amazing.

I’ve seen alot of videos, but most of them showcase “Deathmatches” and just features ships shooting other ships. If something like Hyf would be possible then there is alot of potential in the game and not just the straight forward – “get a better ship and kill everything alot better”.

There is much more than that Remi. I’m going to base my game upon Han Solo. I plan on forking out for the Constellation Ship (link below). Maybe a bit of bounty hunting and freight transportation. It’s expensive though. The Ship I want is the Aquila version of the constellation class ship with me eventually upgrading to the Phoenix.

The Aquila comes with a rover but the Phoenix comes with rover and attack fighter. The Aquila is 220 Euros! Also comes with a 4 man crew and some other cool stuff.

Freight is going to be the easiest way to make money quickly and relatively incident free.

P.s. On the Han Solo theme you can even get a stasis chamber to keep your captives on ice until you deliver them!

Little battle video on Broken moon:

Took me ages getting used to the flying mechanics of it and the key bindings were not so good.
